Description

Ålfoten is a beautiful area on the west coast of Norway. The bouldering is located in a valley just southwest of the town "Ålfoten". The development of the crags started in the fall of 2020 when Kjartan Haaland and Axel Nikodemussen got a tip from the locals to check out the area. The rock in the area is sandstone, so climbing when the stone is wet is prohibited. Give the rock proper time to dry before climbing.

There is a gravel road that goes all the way up the valley, so the most accessible boulders are right by the road. It is important to pay the fee to access the area, as it is being used for the maintenance of the road and bridge in the valley. The area is also very suited for bringing children, and there are even boulders that have been cleaned and first ascended by children. The developers of the crag are also working on establishing harder lines, and some have already been established.

Feel free to clean and establish new lines! When doing so you are contributing to the development of the bouldering area. You can easily add "boulders", "routes" and "lines" in the 27crags app/website. Then adding routes, the developers of the area are notified about the suggested boulder and will add it to the list of boulders after quality control.

During the fall the area is used for deer hunting, and access is limited. You can contact "Hjortegården" regarding access from September through December.

Note that the mobile phone coverage in the valley is poor in most areas of the valley, but there are spots where you can still find reception.

History

Some of the first boulders established in Ålfoten were in the fall of 2020 by Kjartan Haaland and Axel Nikodemussen. The very first known boulder to be established was "Numero Uno" and is located close to the bridge by the first lake. The area has gained a lot of popularity from both local climbers and climbers travelling around Norway. Since 2020, local climbers have hosted annual development camps to develop the area further. During the Camp in 2024 Ålfoten got over 300 established boulders.
