Dong Bang-i

The area is access sensitive!

1) Special rules at this crag

Dong Bang-i hosts several sectors, each with it's own rules and issues.

- Phu Dan Sung is currently the biggest sector. It sits on a small mountain with a monastery on top. All of the boulders are along the stairs from the street up to the monastery. Neither of the last two monks that resided there had any issue with bouldering in the area. Currently, the monastery is vacant and the path as well as the buildings are slowly overgrowing, being swallowed back into the jungle. Phu Dan Sung is therefore at the moment not access sensitive, but it could be if the next monk there doesn't like boulderers in the temple area. Visitors should therefore dress modestly and avoid loud noise, especially noise that could be seen as offensive, such as swearing.

- Apes is a small sector next to the road up the mountain. It is situated in a small bamboo forest directly below some houses that I believe belong to the national park rangers in the area. Avoid loud noise, otherwise no special rules.

- Horrorzone is deep in the dense jungle. It's a network of small canyons and walls that are hard to move between. Almost nothing has been developed. Respect the nature when developing new lines.

2) How to drive to the crag and parking instructions

From Nikom Kham Soi police station / 7-11 head towards Mukdahan. Take the first road to the right through a residential area and towards Non Sawan. Pass directly by the lake Huai Khee Lek and the dam and keep straight at the intersection.

- Phu Dan Sung: Less than 500 m after the lake you will see the stairs to the monastery on your left. The boulders are to the left and right of the stairs leading up the hill.

- Apes: Drive left up the mountain and past the ranger station. About 500 m past the temple you will see a big parking lot with two houses on your right. The boulders are right below the houses in the bamboo forest.

- Horrorzone: From Phu Dan Sung follow the main road around the next big curve. On your left is a hiking path and a sign in a field. Depending on the season, there is also a small creek. Park here and walk left.

3) How to reach the sectors on foot

For Phu Dan Sung and Apes the boulders are directly next to the road. For Horrozone, follow the hiking path into the jungle. Walk past som smaller rocks and up the hill. After about 10 minutes you will reach the second sandstone plateau (where the ground is made from sandstone). Keep right and head into the jungle at the top right end of the plateau. The plateau breaks off into large boulders with canyon-like features between them.
