Description

📚 Forstranda is also covered in the guidebook "Arctic Circle Bouldering" from Nov. 2019.

🌍 Forstranda is located on both the west and north coast of the peninsula where you’ll also find the village of Forstranda. It has a fresh coastal feel and great views. It is divided into small sectors that are spread out along the coast. NATO Base, Urmelstrand and Butcher’s Bay were the first sectors developed. The most recent addition are the boulders in Skogen and probably some more good bouldering can be found here with a bit of searching and brushing effort.

🧗‍♀️⛰ The bouldering is often on free standing blocks of mostly mediocre quality but it offers som good moves. The boulders in the three coastal sectors hold some interesting features, but do tend to be somewhat chossy/sandy. The rock in Skogen is more solid. Beware that most of the day it is not possible to walk between Fishermans’s Friend and Green Scream boulder due to the tide. The landings tend to be a little challenging due to rubble below the boulders, so it is a god idea to bring 2 or more pads and a spotter.

👶 The area is somewhat child friendly if you keep a close eye on your offspring, but don't let them run off by them selfs due to danger of steep rock outcrops and risk of falling into the sea. It is not possible to bring a stroller.

🛏 It is not allwed to camp in the are so you'll have to find somwhere along fylkesvei 17/Kystriksveien.

History

Developement at Forstranda started in 2012 when a group of visiting German climbers were on a road trip through Norway searching for untouched boulders when they discovered Forstranda. During some weeks in that summer of 2012 most of the boulder problems recorded today were put up. Local Sten Stenkjær picked up the torch and added his own creations the year after. Rasmus Bøling brushed down some lines including A walk in the woods in 2018 and climbed handfull of new lines there together with Steinar Kolskog.
