Description

Kärsön is an island connected to Bromma and Lovön by bridge. The main cliff is a classical Stockholm bouldering area very suitable for beginners, consisting of one long wall with over 50 problems, mainly slab and vertical climbs on granite.

Landings are good, most on flat or soft ground.

Heading south west from the main wall there are also secondary zones with slab, wall and a few roof-problems. There are several unmapped lakeside cliffs on the south side but in general the island is bouldering territory. Being a recreational island there are hiking paths around and across the island.

Bring your beach volleyball or maybe frisbees for a frisbee golf round, for shoulder warmup. Also plenty of nice short running trails available. Follow the main running track rightwards from the inner parking to arrive at the main cliff.

History

Kärsön is one of Stockholms most classic bouldering areas.

A popular 6km hiking trail goes around the island, also the close proximity to the royal castle Drottningholm is likely the reason for the large amount of preserved 400 year old oaks, along with rare plants, planted over the island in the 17th century, well worth exploring on it's own.

Other than plants and boulders, Kärsön is known for its triple x rated naturist bath, a no go zone for families and minors, located in the north west corner of the island, at safe distance from the boulders.

The area is access sensitive!

Park where parking is allowed. Access by bus is encouraged.

The island is a nature reserve. No fires outside fixed fireplaces. As anywhere else, no littering!

Dogs should always be on a lead, also when you are bouldering.

There has been badgers living under the main wall, close to Apblocket-area and the Slab-area.
