Koh Tao, a renowned global destination for diving, reveals an equally fascinating potential for bouldering and crack climbing enthusiasts. The island, surrounded by the crystalline waters of the South China Sea, offers an extraordinary variety of rocks, predominantly granite with striking veins of sandstone. Climbing here is a physically intense experience; the rock, characterized by an aggressive texture, leaves holds that linger in the memory for days.
The environment is paradise, embracing the dense inland jungle to the spectacular shores. Koh Tao doesn't go unnoticed, and the diversity of activities available on the island makes rest days equally captivating. Among the options, bouldering and traditional crack climbing emerge as excellent choices.
The blocks vary in height, from challenges just a meter off the ground to daring highballs reaching up to 10 meters. The pad, essential for safe practice, can be conveniently rented at the renowned climbing gym "The Bunker," strategically located in the center of Koh Tao. Here, in addition to the pad, you can rent climbing shoes and all the necessary equipment for adventurous climbing days.
Exploring the cracks of Koh Tao means facing a range of difficulties, from the more accessible to the more challenging. The feeling of gripping granite while maneuvering through these cracks is an authentic and rewarding experience for traditional climbing enthusiasts.
Traveling from one area to another on the island requires a scooter; the roads, though not always perfect, pose no significant dangers. A warm tip is to be equipped with a snorkeling mask: when your fingers start to burn from climbing, being able to immerse yourself in the surrounding waters and come face to face with a turtle just 2 meters from the boulder is a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
The current sectors:
"The Front Yard" and "Backyard"(Jungle Location 🌴), are the closest to the island's inhabited center, situated in the midst of the jungle and near the climbing gym. They are located along the roadside, although tall grass might slightly obstruct the path to the boulders, they are well marked on the map. The rock is aggressive, and the use of mosquito repellent is absolutely necessary.
"Secret Garden" (Jungle Location 🌴), positioned in a relaxing place, encloses beautiful boulders with an aggressive grip, suitable for both beginners and advanced climbers. The use of mosquito repellent is mandatory.
"Yang" (Sea Side 🌊) hosts the most beautiful boulder on the island and other lines truly deserving a visit. Tantalis is one of the island's king lines, a must for those who can afford it. The sector itself is in an area that, in terms of landscape, has nothing to envy to any other place on the island. It is one of the best spots on the island. "Tanote Beach" (Sea Side 🌊) is an excellent area to take a dip and do some bouldering. There are crazy highballs and low boulders suitable for everyone. It is convenient and great if one of the climbers wants to sunbathe while the other climbs.
"Banana Rock" (Sea Side 🌊) is a great place to spend the day between bouldering and snorkeling. A bar and restaurant nearby make everything very convenient.
The "Coffee" (Sea Side 🌊) sector, at the moment, has the absolute most potential. There is an avalanche of boulders along the coast. Access is not very convenient, but if you want to brush a line, this is the place for you.
"Sairee Beach" (Sea Side 🌊)is the most comfortable place by far. Unfortunately, the tide rules here, so make sure it's low before going.
"Babaloo" (Sea Side 🌊) is a small, tide-dependent, and very characteristic area. It overlooks the most famous rock formation on the island, the Buddha.

Ils se trouvent le long de la route, bien que l'herbe haute puisse légèrement obstruer le chemin vers les blocs, ils sont bien indiqués sur la carte. "Yang" (Sur la Mer 🌊) abrite le plus beau bloc de l'île et d'autres lignes qui méritent vraiment une visite. Tantalis est l'une des lignes phares de l'île, un must pour ceux qui le peuvent. Le secteur lui-même se trouve dans une zone qui, en termes de paysage, n'a rien à envier à aucun autre endroit de l'île. C'est l'un des meilleurs endroits sur l'île. "Tanote Beach" (Sur la Mer 🌊) est une excellente zone pour se baigner et faire du bloc. Il y a des highballs fous et des blocs bas adaptés à tous. C'est pratique et génial si l'un des grimpeurs veut bronzer pendant que l'autre grimpe.
"Banana Rock" (Sur la Mer 🌊) est un excellent endroit pour passer la journée entre blocs et plongée avec tuba. Un bar et un restaurant à proximité rendent tout très pratique.
Le secteur "Coffee"(Sur la Mer 🌊), pour le moment, a le potentiel absolu le plus élevé. Il y a une avalanche de blocs le long de la côte. L'accès n'est pas très pratique, mais si vous voulez brosser une ligne, c'est l'endroit pour vous.
"Sairee Beach"(Sur la Mer 🌊) est l'endroit le plus confortable de loin. Malheureusement, la marée règne ici, donc assurez-vous qu'elle est basse avant de partir.
