Niederthai is a very unique climbing area. Inside a lush green forest lies many massive blocks and nice rock faces with great routes. The setting resembles many people from Lord of the Rings, and there's even many routes named after the movie.
🧗♀️
The rock is great quality granite featured especially with good hols and crimps. There's both short and powerful overhangs of only 10m (check out Waldlaufer), but also up to 30m long vertical routes (e.g. Minas Tirith) too. Unfortunately many routes are chipped, especially on the Steiler Block, but the routes are surprisingly nice despite this.
☀️
As most of the crags are shaded by the trees it's best to visit Niederthai during spring, summer and autumn.
🚶♂️
The approach varies depending to which sector you head but in 20min you should be able to reach even the futherst ones. As many sectors are reachable by good walking paths, Niederthai is a good option for families with kids.
