Bolting Please check with the owners before bolting anything. There are also many trad routes at this venue, so check and double check that you are not drilling someone’s trad line. Contact the owners to find out if there are bolts available in the bolting fund.
Originally discovered by Hermie Venter, this great set of crags has loads of potential for single- and multi-pitch routes across a large grade spectrum. Owned by climbers, this is a very friendly venue that has some excellent sport routes, as well as some good trad climbing. Already one of the better venues for moderate grade climbing, with a little more development this venue could well become one of Montagu’s more popular climbing areas.
Access
Privately owned by climbers. Please email Jason Hayden and Jennifer Hsieh at thefarmroute62@gmail. com before you climb there, just so they know who is climbing on their land. There may be a small fee levied for a bolting fund and an indemnity form to sign. The farmers get their drinking water from the kloof, so please keep the waterways and surrounding areas clean. How to get there
From Montagu, take the R62 towards Barrydale. From the bridge on the outskirts of Montagu, travel for 6 kilometres to reach Guano Caves on the right. Another 1.4 kilometres further you will come to a gate on your right with a sign saying ‘The Farm R62’. Enter the gate, turn left immediately and follow the road around, then veer right past some small white cottages. Continue to the end of the road, turn left and follow the farm track to a parking area next to a round cement dam.
