Description

The new cuttings is a relatively small section of cliff that boasts some of the highest quality lines on Portland. The bouldering is vertical limestone climbing that is very accessible from the main path and the landings are flat. There is something for everyone here with grades starting at f4 and going all the way up to 8a+/B with the recently developed Treason. The first area you reach (The Playground), holds lots of easier problems with a big area around it, making it perfect for beginners or families.

The cliffs are well sheltered and easterly facing, so stay protected from the brunt of bad weather. They also have a large surrounding hedge, meaning it is often climbable apart from during heavy downpours. The best conditions are often on a brisk winters day with a south easterly wind on the face.

Some of the more popular climbs here are Phat slapper, stompin with Bez and Guy Fawkes, with the general majority of the problems being high and similar to the technical nature of the sport climbing Portland is known for. The surrounding bushes grow quickly during summer, so please be careful of brambles and be considerate of the reserve if pruning back any access paths.
