No special access issues
Zen Garden sector is one of the bouldering sectors in Zoolander bouldering area, Khon Kaen, Thailand.
Zoolander is in the zoo, and all visitors must buy the zoo entrance tickets to access the area. The ticket is THB130 for Thai adults and THB350 for foreigners.
There are 2 options for access.
Access 1. If you have a low clearance vehicle, park in the main parking area, same with Central Park. If you have a high clearance vehicle, from the main parking area, keep left and drive downhill along the lang. Park at the corner where the lake ends and you see a pump station. Take a trail left from a pump station to the first boulder.
Access 2, which is a more popular one, you can park at the Water Park and walk down the luge car track. When the track ends, the trail branches out to the left, come down to the ground and walk a bit further downhill.
Khon Kaen Climbing Club (KKCC) maintains access to the Zoolander bouldering area within the zoo. We all understand that access issues are frequently encountered. We have negotiated with and have a good relationship with our host, the zoo organization. Please don’t undermine all our hard work. So climb safely. Respect your surroundings and also other zoo users.
We highly recommend climbers at Zoolander practice standard safety procedures and keep environmental impact to a minimum. Climbing here is a privilege, not a right.
LEAVE NO TRACE
• Stay on trails.
• Keep the forest trash-free. Pack it in. Pack it out.
• Climb on developed boulders following the topo instructions. Please consult KKCC if you want to develop new lines on boulders.
• The nearest restroom is 500 m away. That is the place for action, not the forest. Manage your human waste.
• Respect wildlife. We invade their home to climb.
SAFETY RULES
• Adopt enhanced safety standards when climbing.
• We recommend a minimum of 2 crash pads and one spotter at any time when bouldering.
• Highball boulders (>5 m tall) should be approached with high caution, with lots of pads and spotters.
• Climb in designated areas only. Do not climb on or near animal enclosures.
• If you come by car please park in designated parking areas only. Do not block traffic.
• Be considerate of other climbers, observers, zoo visitors, and the environment, so that we all can have a good time together.
• Free soloing is strictly PROHIBITED.
