Description

Santahamina is a closed military island. Access to the area requires a special permit. The area consists of cliffs and Boulder rocks. The routes are mostly suitably shallow and a lot of easy climbing can be found. The most versatile single destination in the area is Everstikivi. It includes several great routes. All destinations are easily accessible by car or bicycle. The Vesitorni and Santahaminatalo routes are also close to the bus line.

History

Climbing activities in the area began in 2015, when the Finnish Defense Forces Sports School moved from Lahti to Santahamina and Lahti-based climbing activists arrived on the island. Eero Virtanen and John Seppänen found the first lines. The action received a good boost when Sami Koponen and Anthony Gullsten joined the military service in Santahamina.
Andy graduated already in the winter season but Sami continued all the way to the officer and climbed the first climbs in the area.
