Description

A very scenic crag along Kongevegen i the middle of the beautiful Lærdal valley. The valley is known to be very dry and short on snow. So the season can start early at Steine. You can boulder here in February, the summer and also the fall.

The established bouldering is mainly situated in the outer rim of a massive rock field with fairly easy access along the historic Kongeveien and the Mail trail (correspondence was a bit harder back in the day).

The rock quality vary from excellent to proper choss. The potential is still significant, especially inside the rock field.

The beautiful scenery combined with the easy access makes this a family friendly crag, as long as you are very careful of not letting children go into the rock field (hidden holes between rocks).

Remember to be respectful to other users of the area, don’t litter and don’t play music at the crag. Enjoy!

History

It may have been someone climbing in this area before, but the first activity know to the authors was in 2013 when Jørgen Bryn Henriksen went by Steine and started cleaning and projecting on the Nose Job boulder. The following year Øyvind Ville Sæter and friends went for a couple of visits and established the first handful of boulders, including the classic Sensei.
